AaeE 2007: Eighteenth Annual Conference of the Australasian Association for Engineering Education (Melbourne, Australia) On invitation from the AAEE TNEP delivered a called 'Emerging Engineering Education Curriculum for Sustainable Development'. The workshop highlighted the release of the Energy Transformed online textbook, developed in partnership with CSIRO and the National Framework for Energy Efficiency.

Greenbuild and Renewable Energy Exhibition - GREX (Sydney, Australia) On invitation from the organisers the team set up a three day exhibition of the TNEP initiatives and the team presented a summary of the flagship projects as part of the presentation program.

18-21 March 2007 – Conference Presentation by Cheryl Desha (Paten) Alliance for Global Sustainability (AGS) Annual Meeting 2007: Pathways to Our Common Future, hosted by the Technical University of Catalonia (Barcelona , Spain) Cheryl presented a conference paper and poster under the education stream of the conference. The topic of the poster and presentation was ‘A Summary of the ‘Engineering Education for Sustainable Development - Toolkit Of Information & Teaching Material'.

9 February 2007 – Panel Presentation by Cheryl Desha (Paten) Carrick Institute Leadership Forum 2007 (Sydney , Australia) Cheryl was invited by the Carrick Institute to provide the perspective of an ‘Early Career Academic' during a panel session at one of their 2007 leadership events in Sydney. Cheryl gave a short presentation on ‘Opportunities for Early Career Academics to Lead, in Educating for the Future'.

Victorian Department of Primary Industries (Melbourne, Australia) Michael Smith presented on the range of opportunities and strategies for the Beef and Diary industries on behalf of TNEP at the invitation of the Department of Primary Industries for their Animal Production Sciences Division's Annual Staff Workshop, Victoria.

Australian National University Global Change Symposium (Canberra, Australia). Michael Smith presented on the range of projects with which TNEP has been and is currently engaged to address climate change in his presentation, 'TNEP - A Boundary Organisation's Response to the Threat of Climate Change'.

7th National Business Leaders Forum on Sustainable Development (Brisbane, Australia). Nick Palousis delivered a session panel presentation on to business and government representatives on 'Responding to EU Waste Regulation: Stick or Carrot?'. Michael Smith, on behalf of TNEP, was asked to join a panel of Forestry experts including TNEP mentor Greg Bourne, CEO of WWF. Michael presented an overview of TNEP’s research that has revealed exciting opportunities for the Plantation, Timber Products and Paper sector incorporated into the ‘A3P Sustainability Action Plan’.

1 - 14 May 2006

'The Art and Science of Natural Sequence Farming Forum' (Canberra, Australia). Michael Smith organized and facilitated the forum at ANU with Natural Sequence Farming pioneer Peter Andrews, and some of Australia's leading NRM scientists such as Dr John Williams, Professor David Mitchell, Tony Coote, for the 2005 National Innovation Festival. Over 290 people attended. The Natural Edge Project is a partner in the Land Hydration Alliance as part of a significant WaterSmart Australia proposal led by Natural Sequence Farming, Best Results (Aust) Pty Ltd and Southern Cross University. CSIRO Greenhouse 2005 International Conference (Melbourne, Australia). TNEP mentor and co-author, Adjunct Professor Alan Pears and TNEP secretariat's paper was accepted at this prestigious international conference, 'Key insights to help achieve Deep Cuts in Greenhouse Gas Emissions, whilst Creating Jobs and a Stronger Economy'. Alan Pears presented on behalf of TNEP at this important event providing an overview of Chapter 17, Profitable Greenhouse Solutions from The Natural Advantage of Nations. Download the PPT.

18 - 19 July 2005

EES 2005 – Creating Sustainable Engineering Solutions (Sydney, Australia), TNEP members Michael Smith, Nick Palousis and Charlie Hargroves presented papers at the conference. Charlie's presentation was titled 'Prospering in a Carbon Constrained World' based on a report developed in partnership with the Chicago Climate Exchange and the European Climate Exchange by Natural Capitalism Solutions and The Natural Edge Project, see abstract.

International Dialogue on ‘Providing Leadership for Sustainable Development’, (Beijing, China) TNEP members, Michael Smith and Charlie Hargroves were invited to attend, Michael was unable to attend due to study related commitments however Charlie Hargroves attended along with TNEP mentor Mark Diesendorf.

Engineering Education in Sustainable Development International Conference, (Barcelona, Spain) Delegate and Speaker Cheryl Desha. Paper presentation on the Critical Literacies for Engineers Portfolio, and a panel presentation on the Sudanese Virtual Engineering Library initiative. Session facilitated by TNEP, with speakers including Michael Smith and Karlson Hargroves with TNEP working group member Mia Kelly, Christal George, Dan McKinley and TNEP co-founder James Moody. At this event TNEP introduced its original whole of society approach to sustainable development concept and strategy.

 

7 - 10 October 2001

Tertiary Education Facility Management Association Incorporated Conference (Canberra, Australia) 'Achieving Significant Financial Savings in Universities through Environmental Initiatives'. Conference Paper was presented by TNEP's Michael Smith and TNEP mentor Liam Waldren. The work reported in this paper on the greening of the ANU Research School of Chemistry was awarded one of the three ANU Environmental Achievement Awards for 2001.

 

26 - 28 September 2001

Inaugural National Conference of Sustainable Campuses (Sydney, Australia). 'Australian National University Whole System Approach to Water Management: From Science Buildings to Stormwater to Sullivans Creek'. Conference Paper by TNEP's Research Co-ordinator Michael Smith. Presentation by ANU Green representative David Carpenter and TNEP's Michael Smith. Work such as this resulted in Michael being awarded the individual ANU Environmental Achievement Award for 2001 .
